New Faculty – Academic Schedule – What You May Want to Know

Reality: We live in a world that revolves around a 15 week semester, we like to add a pre-week (Week 0) and a post-week (Week 16) and then you pretty much repeat this pattern each semester.

Week 0 Prepping for your courses. This isn’t limited to Week 0 and this work can happen any time but there is a definite buzz at the college the week before the semester starts.  – Course Outlines
Setting Up and Rolling Over

– read back issues of the Teaching Hub
– Check out the Faculty Patchbook of Pedagogy– Check out D2L tipsheets for a variety of tools- Come down and visit the LDS team, or call or email them with your questions, wonderings, etc.,

(There might be other things going on this week – check for teaching team meetings, school meetings or all-staff meetings)

Orientation for New Students

Upper-semester students start on Day 2

 

 Things we suggest:
– show your students how you have set up your D2L course page and what you expect them to do.
Week 2

By day 5 students will have had to register in a course that is 7 weeks in length (or less)

By day 10 students will have had to register in a course that is 15 weeks in length (more than 7 weeks – less than 15 weeks)

For students: Final Date to Withdraw from College with a Partial Refund (Day 10)

Week 5 Final Date to Withdraw from a course of less than eight weeks duration and receive a ‘W’ designation on Academic Record
Week 6  Policy: Academic Appeal

Week 7
Week 8  Independant Learning Week  Plan to Attend our Teaching and Learning Day – you will read lots about it in the Teaching Hub and recieve an email from ‘Communications’ to RSVP
Week 9  Final date to register for a 7 week course that starts after the Independant Learning Week (Friday of this week)
Week 10  Final Date to Withdraw from a course of more than seven weeks and receive a ‘W’ designation on Academic Record
Week 11
Week 12
Week 13  Final Date to Withdraw from a course of less than eight weeks duration (Delivered in second half of term) and receive a ‘W’ designation on Academic Record
Week 14
Week 15  End of Semester
Week 16  Grades are due in to the Registrar’s office by noon on the Tuesday
