Getting Started

Once you have an idea for an applied research project and you have discussed it with your Chair, contact the OARI (see sidebar for contact information).

The OARI is responsible for the coordination and submission of all Fleming College applied research funding proposals. The OARI is also responsible for securing approvals when Fleming College is supporting a proposal that will be submitted by an external partner organization or institution.

We strive to make the application process as easy as possible for you. After an initial meeting where you propose your project idea, OARI will work with you to prepare the project funding proposal documents, the project budget, and complete all necessary paperwork. Project proposals take several weeks to prepare and submit.

Faculty and staff will require approval from their Chair/Manager before engaging in a project. All proposals require institutional approvals; therefore, timelines should allow for securing all appropriate approvals before proposal submission.

Applied research projects require an external partner. If applicable, external partners will be required to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) agreements, as well as any other agreements required by the funding agency or the College. These agreements protect the partner’s Intellectual Property (IP), describe the roles and responsibilities of all parties, and lay out the general terms for partnerships.
