Research Ethics Board
Fleming’s REB was established to ensure the protection of study volunteers in research projects and reports directly to the President of the College. It receives administrative support from the Office of Applied Research and Innovation.
Before any research that involves human participants can take place at Fleming College, the proposal for research must undergo a review and approval process by the Research Ethics Board to ensure that the research complies with the highest ethical standards.
Specifically, all research projects involving human subjects undertaken by members of or conducted at Fleming College-including all faculty, staff and students, including students carrying out research as part of class assignments-shall fall within the jurisdiction of a committee called the Fleming College Research Ethics Review Board (REB), irrespective of the source of financial support (if any) and irrespective of the location of the project, in the latter case, so long as the investigator represents the work as Fleming research. Projects conducted by researchers from outside the Fleming College community who access College resources (either equipment or personnel) will also fall within the jurisdiction of the Fleming College REB.” – Board Policy 2-216
