Resources and Training

This page brings together a collection of resources to support excellence in applied research at Fleming. Here you’ll find links to free training opportunities, reference materials, and practical guides relevant to research across disciplines.

These resources are not mandatory, but they’re strongly encouraged for anyone involved in applied research. Whether you’re developing a proposal, leading a project, or mentoring students, they can help you strengthen your understanding of inclusive, ethical, and evidence-based research practices.

Featured Training: Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+)

Offered by: Government of Canada
Duration: Approx. 2 hour (self-paced, online, free)
About this course:
The GBA+ course introduces a framework for examining how diverse groups of people experience policies, programs, and research differently. It helps researchers identify unintended barriers, biases, and assumptions and consider intersecting factors such as gender, age, ability, culture, and income.
Why it matters for applied research:
GBA+ is a valuable tool for any researcher, regardless of discipline. Even in highly technical or engineering-focused projects, applying GBA+ thinking can uncover design, usability, or accessibility considerations that lead to better, more inclusive solutions. It also helps prevent the common pitfall of overgeneralization – assuming that results or technologies will work the same way for everyone. Incorporating a GBA+ lens strengthens research proposals, ensures equity is embedded from project design to dissemination, and aligns with funder expectations across Canada.
Take the course: GBA+ Online Course – Women and Gender Equality Canada

Note: If you are a Fleming researcher and you have completed this course, please send your certificate of completion to the Research Operations Officer for our records.
