Changing the document’s structure should be made in the original or source document whenever possible. However, there are times when the structure doesn’t exist or you want to change it on a PDF after it has been created.
Headings
Just as in Word, structure like heading should be present in a PDF and follow a logical order i.e. H1, H2, H3 etc. There are a couple of different methods to add or change a heading tag.
Method 1
Select the tag you wish to change to a heading. The text will be selected in blue or have a blue box around it. Perform a right-click to open the Properties dialog. In the box, select the Type drop down and choose the new heading level from the list of options. You can also type “Heading Level 1” into the Type field, but be sure to use the correct name with capitalization. The Type field is case sensitive.
Method 2
Uses the Reading Order tool. To open this, open Prepare for accessibility tool > Fix reading order at the bottom of the list. Then, choose the new tag type from the Reading Order dialog.
Images
All essential images, charts, or graphs must have alternate text descriptions (i.e. alt text, alternative text, or image description). To edit or add alt text to an image in a PDF, open Accessibility tags in the Navigation panel. Images in a PDF are tagged with <Figure>. Within the Tags List, right click the <Figure> you want to add alternative text to. Choose the Properties option from the menu.
In Object Properties menu, type your descriptive alternative text into the edit box for Alternate Text. To save changes, choose the Close button.
