PASSING A COURSE: You will require a minimum of fifty (50%) percent in a course to obtain a passing grade. However, some courses may require greater than 50% and/or have mandatory components to achieve a passing grade. Check your course outlines for more details.
ACADEMIC PROGRESSION: In order to progress to the next level of program study, a student must achieve all of the following:
1. a semester Grade Point Average (GPA) of 1.2 or greater
2. a passing grade in 66.66% of registered course load
3. successful completion of any prerequisite or co-requisite courses
4. successful completion of any mandatory course and/or semester requirements (such as Non-Academic Requirements among others) as determined by the program.
ACADEMIC PROBATION: In the case where a student: earns a semester GPA of less than 1.2 and/or did not achieve a passing grade in 66.66% of their registered course load, that student will be placed on Academic Probation. Academic Probation is a student status that is applied in order to define the next steps for the student to resume program progression.
PREREQUISITE: Some courses may have a prerequisite that must be successfully completed prior to taking the course in question. All pre-requisites are listed on the course outline.
GPA: Grade Point Average is a weighted (some courses have more hours than others) calculation of your marks earned across your courses and is cumulative across all of your semesters.
NON-ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS (NARS): Includes non-academic entrance requirement such as vaccinations, certifications, first aid training etc. etc that may be required by your program. Please check your individual program requirements.
PLAR – PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT AND RECOGNITION:
Recognition for prior learning acquired through life and work experience. Prior learning is assessed, so that it may be translated it into a college credit. Student’s may initiate the process by applying through the Registrar’s Office.
STATUS: Full-time students are enrolled in at least 66.66% of the courses prescribed for the semester in your current program. For more information about your status, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
