The first step is to determine if you are required to select an elective this term. Refer to your Course Selection List in your Student Center for your elective choices. These choices are predetermined to fit in your original schedule/timetable.
Mandatory courses and mandatory general education course(s) are loaded to your schedule/timetable by the Registrar’s Office.
Your Course Selection List informs you of your curriculum for your current semester. The example shown below is a Police Foundations (PF) student in semester 2. In this instance, the student has both a general education elective course (often referred to as a Gen Ed or GNED) to select AND a program elective course to select for semester 2. These options will show on your course selection list ONLY if you are required to take an elective(s) this semester.
Notice that it indicates for the student to “Choose 1” of each in this example. If you are required to take more than one, it will be noted.
Returning to your Student Center, you will find the Enrollment Shopping Cart under your schedule. Depending on the number of classes already on your schedule/timetable you may need to scroll down to see the Enrollment Shopping Cart link.
Clicking on the Enrollment Shopping Cart will take you to a page that looks like this:
This list corresponds to the list of General Education Elective and/or Program Elective courses noted on your Course Selection List.
The Status symbol column to the far right, will let you know if the course is open for registration (green circle) or closed (blue square – not available for registration at this time).
This student has decided to take GNED 123 – Crime & Deviance – Mod Society (course name can be found on the Course Selection List) as their elective this term and clicked in the Select box next to the Class.
The validate function will check the “selected” classes in your shopping cart for the following:
- Time Conflicts – One or more classes have the same dates/times
- Requisite – Tells you that a required course or requisite course has not been taken
- Repeats – Warns when you are trying to enroll in a class you have received a grade in before
- Reserves – The open seats are reserved for another group, so you cannot register in the course at this time
Validate before you try to enroll in the class and it will save you time!
If there was a conflict, the student would have the Status column show X and the Message would note a “Potential Problem.” In this example, there is no issue and we will click on the Shopping Cart button to return us to the previous page.
The student has ensured GNED 123 is selected and will now click the Enroll button.
The Confirm Classes page displays the class information for your confirmation. To finish the registration, click the Finish Enrolling button.
Both the Cancel and Previous buttons will take you back to the main page of the Enrollment Shopping Cart.
The screen below will either indicate that you were successful in adding the class or that there was an error. A successful enrollment will have a green check mark on the right side. An error is flagged with a X in the Status column. See Getting an Error? tab in the Timetable Tutor for more information.
In this case, the student was successful.
If you are required to register in a second elective (some students may be required to pick both a general elective and a program elective course for the same term), you will want to click the Add Another Class button to return to the Enrollment Shopping Cart selection page.
Clicking on the My Class Schedule button will take you to view your schedule either in a List View or, in a Weekly Calendar View. (Refer to Home page)
