TRANSITIONAL SUPPORT FOR FIRST- YEAR, FIRST NATION, MÉTIS AND INUIT STUDENTS
The Bishkaa (Anishinaabemowin for “Rise Up”) mentorship program provides a wholistic approach to support new First Nations (status and non-status), Métis and Inuit students.
Bishkaa is a great opportunity to connect with Indigenous student services staff and other Indigenous students to build friendships and cultural connections. New students can get support and guidance from an upper year Indigenous student for a things such as;
- Finding classrooms and getting familiar with the campus(es)
- Accessing medicines and smudge
- Information on other Fleming College services and supports
- Drop in academic, financial, cultural, or ‘just for fun’ events
- Connecting to Indigenous Student Services Coordinator(s) for broader support
