Katrina Van Osch-Saxon has been teaching within Fleming’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences since 2012 and teaches Forest Health, Tree Health Management, Greenspace Management along with other courses in the Urban Forestry Technician, Arboriculture and Forestry programs.
Katrina graduated from University of Guelph with a B.Sc. before attending Fleming’s Environmental Pest Management diploma and Arboriculture certificate programs.
She has worked in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta as a tree planter and tree quality inspector. Katrina is also a certified arborist and ran Niagara Tree Service for 12 years with her husband before returning to Fleming to teach. She shares her passion for entomology and forest health with her students in fun and engaging ways, and in 2017 received Fleming’s Charles E. Pascal Award for Excellence in Teaching. Katrina is also the founder of the Women in Trees (WIT) conference at Frost Campus. The conference brings together women in the industry and young women interested in careers in urban forestry and arboriculture for networking and mentoring as a way to raise awareness about different opportunities for females in the industry.
