Bursaries

The Transgender Endowed Academic Bursary was originally established in 2012 by former faculty member Dr. Kean Savard (EdD, MSc). It is only intended for students who identify as trans, two-spirit, non-binary, or other non-cisgender typology. The student can be from any program, part-time or full-time, but must be in good academic standing.

Name Changes

Students can find instructions on how to change both their preferred and legal names on the Office of The Registrar’s Name Change page.

Peterborough Community Legal Centre’s Trans ID Clinic Fleming students may be eligible for free legal support with official name/gender marker changes. Eligibility will be determined during a participant’s intake appointment and depends on the person’s income and household members, age (16+), and must be within the Peterborough catchment area.

If you are a Fleming student residing elsewhere, contact namechange@flemingcollege.ca to see if you might be eligible or other supports available to you. Students can also apply for the Fleming Name Change Bursary to cover costs.

Students and staff can change their preferred name on a self-serve basis. To do this go to myCampus > Evolve Administration Systems > Navigator (compass in upper right) > My Self-Service > Campus Personal Info > Names > Preferred.

 

2SLGBTQ+ Counselling

Counselling Services offers 2SLGBTQ+ affirming counselling for students with a diverse team of counsellors. Counselling Services can support you with topics related to gender and sexuality, as well as connect you with services that can support you in your gender transition, name change process, and more. To book an appointment, please go to the counselling services on your campus (Sutherland: A2113, Frost: 254, Haliburton: Front Desk) to fill out an intake form. 

Fleming Health Services offers gender-affirming care by doctors trained in 2SLGBTQ+ health. Health Services doctors can prescribe hormones as well as offer gender-affirming surgery referrals. Available at both Sutherland and Frost.
