Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are hazard classification, cautionary labeling of containers, the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and worker education and training programs.

Students on placement  may work with hazardous materials. All programs with placements will require you to submit the certificate from the WHMIS 2015 training by the deadline for the term in which you go on placement. You will need to take WHMIS 2015 only once and this training does not need to be renewed (unless a new version of the standard is released).

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety offers the WHMIS 2015 course at minimal cost here: http://www.ccohs.ca/products/courses/whmis_workers/

*Please remember to print your certificate generated at the end of the training. The certificate must be submitted to NARS@flemingcollege.ca or uploaded to Synergy, depending on your program requirement.

Workplace Health & Safety Awareness Training (WHSA)

Students participating in placement as a part of an approved Ontario College program are required to complete Workplace Health and Safety Awareness (WHSA) Training before participating in placement. This requirement is mandated by the Ontario Government to ensure you are aware of your rights and responsibilities regarding health and safety as a placement student.

The training can accessed at the following link: Workplace Health & Safety Training.

*Please note: If you are unable to progress through the training due to the forward buttons not working, please choose the ‘Alternate Video Format’ option in order to proceed.

You will be required to submit the certificate to NARS@flemingcollege.ca or Synergy, depending on your program requirement.
