As building occupants, we have a role to play in maintaining a pest-free workplace. Colder weather brings pests like mice and rats indoors, and we all have a responsibility to keep the snacks and food we bring onsite in pest-proof containers. Every effort should be made to keep offices and workspaces free of food and food waste, and only use designated locations, like the staff lounge, cafeteria, and kitchenettes around the College.
- Appropriate waste containers should be used for food and drink disposal immediately after use. Recycling bins are to be used for recyclable items only and not for perishable items. Dishes should be washed at the end of every meal and hermetically sealed containers used to store food
- Refrigerators and toasters should be emptied and cleaned on a regular basis
- Spills should be cleaned up as soon as they occur
- Coffee areas have a greater potential of spills (coffee, sugar packets, cream / milk cups, water) and must be kept clean after each use
