Fleming College Inclusive Statement:
Fleming College believes that diversity and inclusion are cornerstones of global citizenship, equity and success for students and staff. Our promise is an inclusive community where we can Learn, Belong, Become. Our actions demonstrate that we are committed on an on-going basis to removing barriers and actively evolving a culture of respect, recognition, accommodation and celebration of each other’s unique contributions to Fleming’s learning and working environment. We encourage you to visit some of our sister pages to learn more on how Fleming is working towards a fully inclusive college. What is Diversity?Diversity is about the individual. It is about the variety of unique dimensions, qualities and characteristics we all possess.People with different opinions, backgrounds (degrees and social experience), religious beliefs, political beliefs, sexual orientations, heritage, and life experience. DIVERSITY is simply a representation of many different types of people (gender, race, ability, religion, etc.) DIVERSITY often focuses on the differences, and what is referred to as “the mix.“ What is Inclusion?Inclusion is about the collective. It is about creating a culture that strives for equity and embraces, respects, accepts and values difference. Inclusion puts the concept and practice of diversity into action by creating an environment of involvement, and connection—where the richness of ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives are harnessed to create business value and overall success. INCLUSION is the deliberate act of welcoming diversity and creating an environment where all different kinds of people can thrive and succeed. INCLUSION is the act of “making the mix work.” Diversity is what you have. Inclusion is what you do. Diversity and inclusion is about capturing the uniqueness of the individual; creating an environment that values and respects individuals for their talents, skills and abilities to the benefit of the collective. |
