Launch of New Phishing Protection Platform

When?

Wednesday, February 11th, 2026

What is it?

Fleming College has launched additional phishing protection features from our Microsoft Defender for Office 365 suite of tools. This software will be used to conduct simulated phishing exercises and provide users with targeted awareness feedback as needed. Most staff can expect to receive approximately one simulated phishing email per month.

Why?

Phishing remains one of the most common and effective methods used by cybercriminals. Phishing is successful because it targets human behaviour rather than technical vulnerabilities. The goal of launching this new phishing protection platform is to measure risk, improve security awareness, reduce incidents and breaches, and strengthen the College’s overall cyber resilience.

✅ Did you know? Regular phishing exercises are required under the College’s cybersecurity insurance policy.

How?

Reporting a suspected phishing email (real or simulated) is one of the best ways you can help protect Fleming College. If something looks suspicious, report it right away; you are a critical part of our cybersecurity program.

Notepad++ software upgrade to mitigate security vulnerabilities

When?

Why?

Security vulnerabilities affecting older versions of Notepad++ software

What’s the impact?

All students and staff that currently use the Notepad++ software. The rollout of the latest secure Notepad++ software will take place over the next 2-3 days. 

Students and staff are encouraged to use alternative text editors while IT upgrades the software on identified workstations.

Information Update: Wireless Authentication Update

When?

Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at 9:00 pm

Why?

The annual renewal of a certificate that facilitates secure connections to Fleming’s on-campus wireless (Wi-Fi) service.

What’s the impact?

The next time you connect to Fleming’s Wi-Fi service, your device may ask you to confirm the connection information.

Some devices may also prompt you to accept or trust the new certificate. It is safe to do so as you are expecting this change.

When?

Friday, January 2, 2026, from 7:00 am to 8:30 am.

Why?

To install annual tax patches.

What’s the impact?

During the maintenance window above, the Human Capital Management (HCM) & Recruitment Solutions (RS) portions of the Evolve system will be unavailable.

The Evolve Campus Solutions (CS) and Finance (FIN) modules will not be impacted by this maintenance.

Information Update Password Expiration Reminders

When?

Beginning Monday December, 22, 2025.

What?

Staff passwords have a maximum age of 9 months (270 days) and must be changed regularly to avoid expiry. Changing your password before it expires is important to avoid any system access disruptions.

To assist with timely password changes, the ITS department will resume sending password expiration reminders via email.

The new email format will be sent from our ITS Operations (itsoperations@flemingcollege.ca) account and will appear like the sample below.

When?

Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Why?

A localized Bell circuit outage.

What’s the impact?

  • Incoming calls to the Frost main line (705) 324-9144 will be unsuccessful.
    • As a temporary workaround, incoming callers can instead dial (705) 749-5530 to reach the College’s main auto-attendant.
  • If you require emergency assistance:
    • To contact Emergency Services,
      • use a personal mobile phone to dial 911
    • To contact Campus Security,
      • use a mobile phone by dialing

        705-749-5530 ext. 4444

      • If safe to do so, notify Campus Security in person (202F)

When?

From Friday, December 19 at 9:00 pm until Saturday, December 20 at 9:00 am.

Why?

To perform maintenance activities on the College systems named above.

What’s the impact?

The systems named above will be offline for the duration of the maintenance window.

The main Fleming College website (flemingcollege.ca) will be fully inaccessible for the first hour, then display an “undergoing scheduled maintenance” service notice the duration of the maintenance window.

Scheduled Maintenance: MyWorkDrive | Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm

When?

Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Why?

To perform maintenance activities.

What’s the impact?

During the maintenance window, access to H: (home) and S: (shared) drives using the MyWorkDrive website will not be available. 

Direct access to S: and H: drives will still be available using the virtual desktop (VDI) service or on campus desktop computers.
