Career Development

Career Development is an adventure. You are navigating career messaging and advice from different sources and finding a good fit for your skill sets. Career Services is here to help in many different ways. Fleming College students have access to a virtual tool, Type Focus that will allow you to assess personality, interests and values. Additionally you can complete the assessment and meet with a career educator to discuss your results!

Throughout your career you will need to assess where you are going and what you would like to do in future.

Talk to faculty and check your school’s page for industry specific resources. Research labour market information for your industry. Check out campus resources such as Educational Pathways to investigate possibilities with your Fleming education or Continuing Education courses to try a new industry of interest.

Planning & Goal Setting – Education? Certification? Industry contacts? Focus on career goal setting and planning the steps needed to move forward. Use the information you found in your research stage to help you plan your goals.

Self Marketing – Get the word out and build your brand, ensure your cover letters and resumes will wow employers and practice interview skills that will get you the job. To round out your brand ensure you are networking and using social media such as LinkedIn to your advantage.

Gaining Experience – Volunteer, internships, co-op, placements… these are just some ways that people gain experience in their field. Investigate opportunities in your program or look at community opportunities to build your brand in industry.
