Licensed rental properties within Peterborough City must comply with various standards and by-laws including the Fire Code, Electrical Code, Building Code and the City’s Zoning and Property Standards By-law(s). Landlords are required to display a current Business License in a ground-floor window. Landlords had until the send of September 2018 to apply for the Licence to avoid fines.
Owners who operate a Lodging House and/or a Rental Dwelling Unit and who are receiving rent are operating a business. The municipal council for the City of Peterborough has determined that licensing and inspecting large lodging houses and small lodging houses will help to ensure the safety of the occupants and thereof is a municipal interest.
