Scholarly Teaching Professional Learning Community (PLC)

Fleming’s Scholarly Teaching Professional Learning Community (PLC)

Scholarly teachers are those who engage with literature in the field of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and implement peer-reviewed interventions in their course(s) with the goal of improving student learning. This professional learning community (PLC) will explore the concepts of scholarly teaching and SoTL and give faculty members an opportunity to read and discuss peer-reviewed literature on teaching and teaching experiences in a collaborative, supportive environment. PLC participants will design, implement, and reflect on a classroom-based intervention and seek student and peer feedback on its effectiveness. Participants will share their findings in informal ways (such as a presentation, reflective blog post, podcast, etc.) with other faculty members and the Fleming community.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this PLC, faculty members will be able to

  1. Draw from relevant literature on teaching and learning to inform their teaching practice.
  2. Engage in dialogue with colleagues to seek and provide feedback on teaching practice.
  3. Share feedback and reflections with colleagues and the Fleming community on a classroom intervention and its impact on student learning.
