New Contract Faculty Experience
Before your first day, you have the New Contract Faculty Experience to help you prepare. This program will provide structure and support for your early days as a new faculty member. Â
Program Description: The online New Contract Faculty Experience is designed to support new contract faculty as they become familiar with their roles and responsibilities at Fleming College, both by connecting them to our professional community, resources, and services and by encouraging continuous learning and development. This program emphasizes high-impact instructional skills and practices which help faculty build sustainable and effective teaching strategies that support the success of all learners.Â
New Faculty Experience
The New Faculty Experience is a program for new full-time faculty to build community, develop their teaching skills, and work towards their own professional learning goals. For more information, check out the New Faculty Experience Course Outline.Â
Program Description: The New Faculty Experience is designed to support new faculty to collaborate and continuously develop exceptional instructional and assessment practices. This program emphasizes faculty practicing high-impact instructional skills and practices in a low-stakes, collegial environment, to receive constructive feedback throughout their first year of full-time faculty employment with Fleming College.  Â
Teaching & Learning Kick Off
In this 90-minute, interactive session, you’ll learn some teaching tips for the first days and weeks of class. We’ll discuss how to:Â

- Set positive expectations for learningÂ
- Promote engagement through classroom managementÂ
- Plan and deliver effective and engaging lessonsÂ
- Get started with D2L.
Although this session is targeted at new faculty, all are welcome.Â

- Things you may want to say in your first class: some suggested topics for day one.Â
- In “The Importance of Good Bedside Manner for Doctors Teachers, Part 1,” Teresa Thompson shares strategies for faculty members to “demonstrate our positive bedside manner” in a variety of class formats before the semester starts – with a welcome email and through the course outline – and on the first day – such as arriving early to make sure everything is set up, whether face-to-face or virtual, and including an icebreaker during your first class.  Â
