Pharmacy Awareness Week

***On behalf of the School of Health and Wellness***

On Tuesday March 14th the Pharmacy Technician Students will be celebrating Pharmacy Awareness Week!

Students will be collaborating with community volunteers to offer education and services to the public. Pharmacy Technicians are crucial members of the health care team. We are required to participate in health promotional activities, collaborate inter-professionally to ensure continuity of care and we must feel comfortable connecting patients to supports and services within the community.

On Tuesday March 14th between 10am and 1pm in the main foyer of Sutherland Campus Fleming College Pharmacy Technician students will be working with the following community volunteer professionals to deliver a unique complimentary service to college staff, students and members of the public. Sutherland Campus moving to new Centralized Sorting System!

Fleming College is moving in a new direction – starting in Week 4 we implemented a Centralized Waste Sorting System at Sutherland Campus. In this system, small waste receptacles from classrooms and lecture halls were removed and students will be responsible for sorting their waste at the all newly redesigned sorting stations. Labs will be exempt but will receive additional recycling bins.

Classrooms and lecture halls were identified as main problem areas, with waste diversion rates as low as 10%. Recently conducted waste audits have shown that in these areas up to 75% of recyclable material was lost to landfill.

Frost Campus moved to the Centralized Sorting System at the start of the winter semester and has already experienced a noticeable increase in the amount of recycling captured and sent for processing!

Research indicates that centralized systems greatly improve waste diversion rates in academic institutions. Nova Scotia Community College provides a leading example with diversion rates of up to 90% on some campuses utilizing a centralized system.

 We need your help!
