Emergency Management Continuum

 

The continuum is consistent with Public Safety Canada and Emergency Management Ontario. It ensures proactive planning, effective response, and ongoing improvement to maintain a safe and resilient college environment.

Prevention & Mitigation

  • Identify potential hazards specific to the college environment (e.g., fire, power outages, severe weather).
  • Implement measures to reduce risks, such as safety protocols, building inspections, and staff training.
  • Develop policies to prevent emergencies or minimize their impact.

Preparedness

  • Establish emergency plans tailored to various scenarios.
  • Conduct regular training and drills for staff and students.
  • Create communication strategies and systems to disseminate information quickly.
  • Maintain emergency supplies and resources on campus.

Incident Response

  • Activate the emergency plan when an incident occurs.
  • Coordinate with local emergency services and internal teams.
  • Communicate with students, staff, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Manage the situation to ensure safety and minimize damage.

Recovery

  • Assess the impact of the emergency and begin restoring normal operations.
  • Provide support to affected individuals, including counseling if needed.
  • Review response effectiveness to identify lessons learned.
  • Implement improvements to emergency plans based on evaluation.
