Safe Walk Service

Promoting Campus Safety and Awareness

At Fleming College, your safety is important to us. We are committed to helping students, staff and campus visitors safely reach their destinations on campus. Safewalk is a free service and available 24/7 at the Frost and Sutherland campuses.

Requesting a Safewalk

  • Call Campus Security at 705-749-5530 ext. 8000 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year)
  • Call extension 8000 from any on campus phone (located in the hallways and in classrooms)
  • Approach an on-duty Campus Security member and request a safewalk

A Campus Security member will meet you anywhere on campus and walk with you to any other location on campus including bus stops, parking lots, and the residences. Please note that the Campus Security members are not permitted to walk with you off of Fleming College property.

Other Campus Options

Your safety is important to us. While Campus Security is not at all College campuses, the urban and rural environments of the Peterborough Square, Cobourg, and Haliburton campuses make a perfect candidate for the Friend Walk program.

Send your location in real-time to a friend so they can watch you as you walk to your destination! They can watch you and trigger a call to emergency services if necessary.

How to get a Friend Walk

  • Get the Fleming Safe – Mobile App
  • Click on the Friend Walk icon
  • Tap the “Start Friend Walk” button and pick a contact to send your location
  • Your friend will receive the message with a link. When they click it, they will be taken to a map with your location and you will be connected to them.
  • Pick your destination and start moving
  • If you are in panic, hit the button to notify your friend and start an emergency call
  • If you or your friend disconnects, it will end the walk and give you the option to make an emergency call (just in case)
  • When you reach your destination, finish your trip and disconnect
