The work you will do when you are on a co-op or work placement, is different from the academic work you do in your classes. So, the accommodations you need for your classes will likely be different from the ones you need for placement.
Your Letter of Accommodation can be sent to your teachers to let them know what your academic accommodations are, but it canāt just be sent to your placement supervisor. So, we have a different process for arranging your placement or co-op accommodations.
In most programs the placement or co-op is done in the last semester. So, accommodations should be set up the semester before that.
Some programs have placements in earlier semesters. If thatās the case for your program, you and your accessibility counsellor will discuss your placement accommodations in your accommodation appointment.
Once you start hearing details about placement, and arrangements are starting to get made for deciding where you will be doing your placement or co-op, contact the counselling receptionist to book an appointment with your accessibility counsellor.
You and your accessibility counsellor can discuss accommodation options but the two of you will also need to discuss this with your program or placement coordinator. The three of you will determine what accommodations you will use and discuss how to communicate this with the on-site placement supervisor.
The three of you will also discuss what your responsibilities will be, what the collegeās responsibilities will be and what the placement siteās responsibilities will be.
