Career Forward
What are you doing to build your resume?  Whether you’re interested in a new career opportunity in the short-term or not, it’s important to continue to grow, to hone existing skills and develop new ones, and to demonstrate both commitment and ability to learn.  The pandemic gave all of us lots of opportunity to learn new skills and, as painful as it was at times, we did.  So, what’s next – how do we continue our learning journeys?

One way is to take advantage of our Staff Tuition Program – many of our courses are available at an employee rate of $20 per course, plus books and fees.  Not sure if you’re eligible?  Check here, where you can also find and download the Staff Tuition Fees Policy and Form.

Considering additional post-secondary credentials?  Check out our Tuition Rebate Program here.

Bereavement Leave Update
Employees who lost family members during the past year and a half were often unable to attend funeral or memorial services, or to be with geographically dispersed families during a difficult time.  In some cases, this meant that employees chose not to take bereavement leave at the time of the loss of their family member.  In these cases, employees are able to take bereavement leave at a later date (notionally by the end of the current fiscal year), in order to take advantage of lessened pandemic restrictions to visit with family or otherwise commemorate their loss.

Explore the Kawarthas
As we sink into the final weeks of summer, there’s still plenty of time to get out and explore our local communities. The Kawartha lakes and surrounding areas have lots to offer.

Paddle or take a hike at the Eels Creek Canoe Park:  this popular recreational area offers hiking trails and a canoe launch into Eels Creek. After a daring hike or upstream paddle, take in the picturesque High Falls.

Catch a live drive-in concert at the Peterborough Memorial Centre as the PTBOLive Concert Series continues through the month of August.

The Whetung Ojibwa Centre features a wide variety of Indigenous art, sculptures, crafts, jewelry, leather work, art cards, and more for purchase, as well as a museum housing a spectacular collection of Indigenous art and crafts from the Curve Lake Reserve as well as Indigenous artists from across Canada.

For more information on these and other activities within our local communities, visit 50 Things to Do This Summer in Kawarthas & Peterborough.
